Park Production proudly presented “A Night You’ll Never Forget” a cavalcade of music, dance and short stories. It was refreshing to see that Nick Thompson, for the second time as Director for Park Productions, had included in the programme some familiar music as well as including some up-to-date modern pieces, and by the enthusiasm and look of the cast they certainly seemed to enjoy the challenge. Congratulations also to Suzy Wake in her role and Musical Director. It is always lovely to hear five part harmonies from the cast. Congratulations also to Nick, Suzy and Katrina Wake for some nice pieces of choreography, and last but not least to Keith Armitage for stepping in at the last moment to host the show. A special mention must also go to Ken Thain and Philip Wake for the beautiful backcloth which certainly was eye-catching and looked very professional.
The programme started with a selection of music concerning the four seasons. In the Winter section the whole cast sang “Let It Snow”, followed by Nick Thompson singing “Winter’s Tale” before being transported to Spring as Kathleen Carter sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow“ beautifully. In Summer section we had the chorus sing “Here Come the Sun” and “Summer Holiday” followed by “Seasons”, a poem read by Joyce Howe. To conclude the seasons section, Autumn, had soloist Jim Kirkland and the chorus siging “Singin’ in the Rain” followed by Suzy Wake, Natalie Bowmaker and Katrina Wake singing “Wake Me Up When September Ends”. To conclude Act 1 there were a number of classic numbers including “Meet Me in St Louis“ sung by Nick Thompson, Suzy Wake and Katrina Wake, and the chorus sang a Rogers and Hammerstein medley.
The second act opened with Kathleen Carter and June Whitfield singing “When I grow up“, from ”Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and excellent vocals from Katrina and Suzy Wake singing “For Good“ from “Wicked”. There were some good harmonies from Margaret Metcalf and Katrina Wake singing “I Will Follow Him” from “Sister Act” and I particularly enjoyed Nick Thompson, John Casson, Millie Brown, Suzy Wake and Natalie Bowmaker singing “Your Fault/Last Midnight” from “Into the Woods”. Excellent vocals from Katrina Wake singing “Pulled” from”The Adams Family” and “I’m a Believer” from Nick Thompson and Natalie Bowmaker. The evening ended with a melody of music by Andrew Lloyd Webber with the finale of “Joseph Megamix” by the whole cast. This was an excellent programme with something for everyone. Well done to everyone at Park Productions for another fantastic evening.
