Park Productions proudly presented “Melodious Memories and More” a selection of music and sketches to help stimulate those special memories - this concert certainly evoked the memories in me and, from the appreciation of the audience, for those as well. Directed by Nick Thompson and supported by musical Director Suzy Wake this was a well presented concert with some lovely four part harmonies, strong chorus and individual numbers which was supported by accompanist Brian Carter and with special guest Natalie Bowmaker playing two numbers on keyboard.
The show opened with a cavalcade of songs from the classics section including a full chorus assemble of “Brightly Dawns our Wedding Day" from the Mikado, beautifully sang. Suzy Wake gave a beautiful rendition of “Sorry her lot who loves too well” from HMS Pinafore and Natalie Bowmaker played Beethoven’s “Fur Ellise" before the full chorus delivered a beautiful rendition of Ivor Nevello’s “Waltz of my Heart”. Jim Kirkland gave a solid performance with “A Gordon for Me” and a very moving “Down in the Glen”. I particularly enjoyed this section and it was well delivered by Jim. Katrina Wake sang from Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella “Step sister Lament” - a beautifully delivered and very confident performance. There followed a Dr, Dr Sketch by Rob Whitfield, Joyce Howe and Jim Kirkland before moving to the Love section which included a very well-polished chorus of “The Rose” followed by Nick Thompson singing “On the Street Where You Live” from My Fair Lady, again good dictation and well delivered. Kathleen Carter delivered a beautiful number from Kismet “Stranger in Paradise”, followed by a full chorus number “Whistle Down the Wind” beautiful delivered. Kathleen Cater and Jim Kirkland took to the stage for a duet from Oklahoma ”People Will Say Were in Love”, before the chorus sang “Be Back Soon” from Oliver which concluded the first Act.
The second act opened with the cast delivering the beautiful number “Come Follow the Band” from Barnum again a strong chorus number with beautiful harmonise followed by another sketch by Nick Thompson and Jim Kirkland on the classic Two Ronnie’s sketch Ice Cream Parlour, before the cast delivered a cavalcade of music from their comedy section including “The Candy Man", "I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles", "Do Your Ears Hang Low", "The Galloping Major" and concluded with Brian Gibb leading the audience in “The Hippopotamus Song”. There followed a Sherlock Holmes sketch before moving into the final section of Popular Hits including “The Land of Make Believe” the popular Bucks Fizz number, Natalie Bowmaker played another number on keyboard “Angels” followed by an S club 7 number “Reach” before Hannah Bowerbank and Leah Catcheside sang “Any Dream Will Do” from the popular Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Suzy Wake sang “Save the Best for Last” which was well delivered before the concert ended with the full cast singing “Flash Bang Wallop” from Half a Sixpence a very fitting end to a superb show. Without exception the whole cast worked together each going that extra mile to deliver a remarkable performance. Well Done Park Productions on an excellent performance
